PROJECTS

The wonderful Super Scientist competition has returned for Term Two. The aim of the competition is to promote interest in Science and develop scientific understandings, with an oral language focus. The competition requires the students to give a 2-5 minute science based presentation.

The presentation can take the form of an experiment, a demonstration of a science concept, or an oral report of a concept/idea. We are looking for the students to make sure that they are able to explain the science behind the experiment.

We will be starting the presentations for Room 17 at the beginning of Week Six. We will need to choose our three class representatives that will complete in the Year Four final by the end of Week Six. Good luck to everyone.

The Rainforest/Animal Report project is due in Week Five. This means that if the project is finished on Monday of Week 5, then you can hand it in on Monday. If you need the whole week, then the project should be handed in by Friday of Week 5 - 26th May. Many children have chosen to create a poster or tri-fold board for the project.

Another checklist day will be held on Friday, 19th May. All children will need to bring in their project on this day so that I can see how much they have completed. I was very impressed with many of the projects that came in on our last checklist day, however, it was evident that a few children may be leaving things to the last minute... if this sounds like you, then please organise your time wisely and make sure you spend a lot of time this week compiling and completing your project.

Don't forget that in Week 7, you will be required to do an oral presentation of your animal/rainforest report to the class. As you can see, the next few weeks will be quite busy. Sticking to a routine and writing out a schedule may help with the organisation that will be needed. Good luck, everyone.

EXCURSION

A reminder that the excursion permission slip and money is now due. Please ensure that the permission slip is fully completed, including telephone numbers, and that the Cicerellos order form has been signed and checked. The excursion is on Thursday, 25th May. Children will need their recess and a water bottle in a labelled plastic bag. Full school uniform, the school hat and closed in shoes are also necessary. If the weather forecast is poor, the children will also need wet weather gear such as a rain-jacket and umbrella. It is important to be punctual on the day as we will be departing Wattle Grove at 8.45am. It should be a wonderful day and I know that the children will learn a great deal about the maritime history of Western Australia.
